How to choose Pressure Nozzle for plant protection spraying? Leave a comment

When use agriculture drone for crop spraying, it’s quite crucial to choose the right type since it affects neutralization, pesticide utilization and spraying efficiency. Pressure nozzle and centrifuge nozzle are the two common types in market now.  It’s difficult for rookie pilots to choose between them.  What is the advantage and disadvantage of these two? Which to use? Here are some tips over the different types of nozzles.

Comparision Pressure Nozzle with
Centrifuge

Pressure Nozzle

Utilize pump pressure to force liquid neutralized into droplets. The diameters of the droplets vary according to different pressure of the pump and aperture of the nozzle.

Advantages With strong downward pressures, droplets penetrate deep into plant with tiny volume of liquid drifting away. It prevents evaporation at hot and dry weather conditions. Also, using pressure nozzles means simple spraying unit and lower cost.

Disadvantages Pesticide liquid is not evenly neutralized, the diameters of droplets vary greatly and nozzle easily jams especially when spraying pesticide powders.

Pressure Nozzle

Centrifuge

Centrifuge rotate in accordance with motors and produces centrifugal force that turns liquid into droplets. The diameters of droplets are mainly decided by the voltage of the motors.

AdvantagesLiquid is evenly neutralized into droplets of almost the same diameters.

Disadvantages Centrifuge has no downward pressure. Droplets penetrate into plants below only on the forces of downward drought produced by drone rotor blades. It has more droplets drift-away comparing with pressure nozzle. Thus, centrifuge nozzles are not quite fit for high plants and fruit trees. Also the parts of centrifuge nozzle easily go broken. Brushed motors have a short life and need being changed frequently. Brush less motors are much more expensive.

Which one to choose?

It’s not an easy question to answer. Both pressure and centrifuge has its advantages and disadvantages. But we also can find common rules of choosing different nozzles at different conditions.
When using a single rotor drone (helicopter), it’s better to choose pressure nozzles. The nozzle pressure complies easily with the downward force produced by the single-rotor blades and makes the droplets fully penetrate plants from top to bottom. Pressure nozzles and helicopter combo maximize spraying efficiency and effects on high-bole plants like fruit trees and cones. The combo is also a good choice for plant-hopper controlling.

Pressure nozzles are also a better choice for corps with high density. When crops are thin planted, it’s better to choose centrifuge nozzles when good neutralization is needed like spraying on wheat leaves and for common pest controlling.
Also remember to avoid pressure nozzle since it jams easily while spraying powder pesticides.
